Dodds Park Projects

Dodds Park Pedestrian Bridge
The Dodds Park pedestrian bridge was constructed to provide the public access to the Olympic Tribute monument from the main park area across a drainage ditch. HDC Engineering worked with the park district to create this attractive connection between Olympic athletes and everyday sports that take place within the rest of the park. Areas of expertise and services provided by HDC Engineering to the project were:

- A detailed topographic site survey showing all existing land features.

- Hydraulic analysis of drainage way and the effect the proposed bridge would have on storm water drainage.

- Design and drafting for site engineering plans for the bridge project.

- Prepared and submitted permit applications for a joint 404 permit for IEPA, IDNR and US Army Corp of Engineers permit requirements.

- Drainage calculations and submittals to obtain approvals from the local drainage district.

The End Result
A six-foot-wide pedestrian bridge across a drainage swale that divides the Olympic Tribute from the rest of the park activities. The bridge allows easy access for pedestrians walking through the park or fans that are visiting sporting events within the park.

Dodds Park Softball Quadplex
The Dodds Softball Quadplex is a softball facility constructed to provide four elite softball fields in the Champaign area that all softball fans and players can enjoy. HDC Engineering teamed with JJR SmithGroup, the general contractor and the Champaign Park District to provide this spectacular softball facility. Areas of expertise and services provided:

- A detailed topographic site survey showing all existing land features, utilities, sewers and other existing features and improvements to be used for project planning and design.

- Established base lines and benchmarks to provide accurate horizontal and vertical control of the project.

- Construction layout for all park improvements.

- Performed subgrade compaction testing for future parking lots.

- As-built grading certifications to verify the quality of work and provide documentation on grading done for each playing field.

The End Result
A softball quadplex facility equipped with regulation fields, fencing, lights, scoreboards, with centrally located restrooms and a concession building. In addition, irrigation systems, parking lots, and shading structures were added. All areas were professionally landscaped and decorated to make it an eye-catching ballpark on which everyone is proud to play a game of softball.

Dodds Soccer Field Parking
Site design and construction-related services of a 360-parking space parking lot to serve new soccer fields. Construction layout and grading as-built services for the eleven (11) soccer field complex. Boundary surveys, legal descriptions, and platting provided for easements needed by CPD for project.
