Flood Surveys
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has established flood zones along streams and rivers. The flood zones are the areas that will flood during a 100-year rainstorm (FEMA Zone C). Buildings in a flood zone are required to have flood insurance. Elevation Certificates are required to determine if the floor of a building has been constructed above or below the flood zone.
Letters of Map Amendments (LOMA) are revisions to flood zones that are issued by FEMA based upon an application. LOMAs can be issued for an entire tract of land, part of a tract of land, or a building on a tract of land.
